Sony PSP Go

Product Summary:

The good:

For starters, Sony has removed the UMD media slot and opted instead for 16GB of internal storage. It’s also shrunk the screen from 4.3 inches (diagonally) to 3.8 inches while maintaining the same resolution at 480×272 pixels and its wide-screen aspect ratio. Also, the Sony-proprietary Memory Stick Pro Duo slot has been swapped out for the smaller M2 Micro memory card slot. And finally, a slider mechanism has been incorporated to hide the controls when not in use and it now comes with Bluetooth for syncing with headsets.

The bad:
First of all, it’s expensive – despite lack of touch screen and second analog stick. The position of the display controls, analog stick, and volume is gauche. Users would not be able to play UMD games or use old PSP accessories and finally, the battery’s no longer removable, meaning no chance to bring a replacement for longer trips.

Bottom line:
If you’re an existing PSP owner and planning to upgrade, think again. Yes, the PSP Go is a sleek and sexy design, but its high price tag and some frustrating caveats is something to think about.

    Spawn HD-720

The gaming industry has become quite popular that more people today have around two or more different gaming consoles in their homes to play with. Too bad that the number of TV sets in the home may not follow such increases. This can sometimes mean that other family members may be using the TV set and prevent you from playing with your favorite video game for the meantime. It's a good thing that there is now the Spawn HD-720 available in order to help resolve such issues.

The Spawn HD-720 is a device that you can connect with your gaming consoles and allow you to access them through your PC or laptop. You do not have to wait for other family members to stop watching television before you can play your video games. Spawn HD-720 allows you to play them through your PC or laptop through a broadband Internet connection.

All you need to do is to hook up your gaming consoles to your Spawn HD-720 and a broadband Internet connection. You can then go to your computer, connect to the Spawn website through an account that you need to create and download the Spawn player in your PC to allow playing video games. You can them play your console games through your PC in real time speed, whether you are a a floor below or even thousands of miles away from your gaming console. You can also invite your friends for access into your gaming console in case you wish to play together with them. The Spawn HD-720 is available at spawn Labs for US$200.

    Cool Playstation 4 Concept Designed!

Although still a number of years away, a concept designer has decided to create a 3D model of a PlayStation 4. It was created by designer Tai Chiel and has a number of interesting features such as an embedded OLED screen in the transparent section to allow you to view menus, saved games and what looks to be like a game playing on one of the screen shots.

It is unclear when a PS4 will be made available as there are many years left in the PS3 and other consoles like the XBox 360, but that still doesn’t stop the design from being great.

What are your thoughts on a PS4. Will one be coming in the next few years?

    Sega GenMobile

The Sega Genesis has been around a long time. Like Nintendo, the designers at Sega understand that individuals want the freedom of enjoying games outside of the home. The company created the Sega GenMobile to give consumers a new option in the portable gaming industry.

One of the first releases by Sega was a clunky device called the Nomad. With the Nomad, a person merely had to insert their Sega Genesis cartridge and being playing from anywhere. The Nomad was poorly designed and expensive.

Sega understood that future devices needed to be slimmer and better priced so the company designed the Sega GenMobile. Consumers who like to game on the run might be interested in the Sega GenMobile. The best thing about the Sega GenMobile is that the games are already programmed into the device. There are 20 official Sega games that are already built-in.

Although the Sega GenMobile was designed for the road, consumers can play with the game at home by connecting to their TV. The Sega GenMobile has a TV output connector device that allows the games to appear on the TV screen.

Some of the features of the Sega GenMobile include:

    2.5” TFT Color Screen

    Headphone Jack

Rechargeable battery with an AC adapter

    AV Cable

    FireCore compatibility

The Sega GenMobile comes in two colors, black or sonic blue. Gamers should expect to pay about $55 for the device.

Big Button Controller for your XBox 360

Recently, the demo for the game Scene It! was released on the XBox Live Marketplace. Being the thrifty consumer that I am, I downloaded the free demo so I could try the game before I bought it.

It was a typical, lowest common denominator type of trivia game created to encompass the broadest possible audience. Being a geek who has lots of specialized, obscure trivial knowledge, this frustrated me.

However, if I would have to use Microsoft’s new Big Button Controller to play the game rather than the regular gamepad, I would revolt. Looking like something from Fisher Price rather than Microsoft Game Studios, each controller has a giant color-coded button at the top to correspond to “buzzing in” when you want to answer the question at hand. The four smaller color buttons will correspond to the answer you want to select. It connects wirelessly to your 360 and I’m assuming it runs on AA batteries just like the regular wireless controller.

Lucky for the consumer, these four controllers come bundled with the Scene It! game for $60. No reports whether or not you can buy these controllers separately, but it seems to be an indication of Microsoft’s desire to get a toehold into the “casual gaming” market that Nintendo and the Nintendo Wii have such a huge hold of right now.

Purchase Scene It! with the four Big Button controllers for $59.99 at any online or brick and mortar store that sells games on Thursday November 8th.

  • SNES Style Wii Controler for Retro Gaming Fun

If you spent most of your childhood playing Super Mario World on your Super Nintendo, you may just die from the nostalgia when you lay eyes on this product.

Members of Club Nintendo in Japan will have the opportunity to purchase a SNES style Wii controller in April of 2008. Retro gamers outside of Japan may have the chance to pick one of these controllers up in the import market - and it’ll cost you!
From the Gamebrink site, explaining what Club Nintendo is:
Club Nintendo is an official Nintendo club for Japanese fans. Membership is
given as a type of commodity. Anyone who lives in Japan can eventually receive
membership if the person gathers a certain amount of points which can be gained
by purchasing and registering games published by Nintendo. They often receive
nice and exclusive gifts from Nintendo, such as Wii remotes with television
remote functionality, personalized imprints of their favorite Mii characters
onto their Wii remotes, and exclusive & unreleased games, such as the recent
    Exclamation Warriors.
A Club Nintendo account can be linked to your Wii, and
when Virtual Console games are purchased, they appear on the games registered
list on your Club Nintendo account. You can then fill in a questionnaire for
    additional bonus points.
Personally, I would love to get a classic NES controller for the Wii…as soon as I can find a Wii to buy, that is.
