Big Button Controller for your XBox 360

Recently, the demo for the game Scene It! was released on the XBox Live Marketplace. Being the thrifty consumer that I am, I downloaded the free demo so I could try the game before I bought it.

It was a typical, lowest common denominator type of trivia game created to encompass the broadest possible audience. Being a geek who has lots of specialized, obscure trivial knowledge, this frustrated me.

However, if I would have to use Microsoft’s new Big Button Controller to play the game rather than the regular gamepad, I would revolt. Looking like something from Fisher Price rather than Microsoft Game Studios, each controller has a giant color-coded button at the top to correspond to “buzzing in” when you want to answer the question at hand. The four smaller color buttons will correspond to the answer you want to select. It connects wirelessly to your 360 and I’m assuming it runs on AA batteries just like the regular wireless controller.

Lucky for the consumer, these four controllers come bundled with the Scene It! game for $60. No reports whether or not you can buy these controllers separately, but it seems to be an indication of Microsoft’s desire to get a toehold into the “casual gaming” market that Nintendo and the Nintendo Wii have such a huge hold of right now.

Purchase Scene It! with the four Big Button controllers for $59.99 at any online or brick and mortar store that sells games on Thursday November 8th.

  • Waterproof and Fire-Safe HDD Case for Ultimate Data Safety

If you are working with important information, it is obvious that you want it to remain intact. There are many accidents, which may result data loss; such as electricity cuts, accidental deletion, drive failure or external factors. The latter can be most disastrous, because in first two cases you have a chance to restore information as opposed to situations, when your HDD had gone down in flames or sunk. If you are worried only about that kind of situations, fatal to your information, then this ultra protected HDD case can be a good choice.

SentrySafe FIRE-SAFE/Waterproof case was designed by such geeky persons in mind. Sentry and Maxtor teamed up and created a tank-like safe that can sustain temperatures of up to 1500 F (815 C) for nearly 30 minutes – which is amazing. This HDD safe cames with OneTouch 4 Mini drive, with a plenty of backup/restore software. Drive is fully functional when in case, with an external USB cable that lets you connect it to your PC without removing it from its shell.

It is a pity that this drives are not RAID, so you are not secured from good old drive failures. This ultimate drive protection gadget will cost you 320 dollars for 160 GB version, and 260 for 80 GB. A bit high price, but doesn't the lost information cost higher?

  • SNES Style Wii Controler for Retro Gaming Fun

If you spent most of your childhood playing Super Mario World on your Super Nintendo, you may just die from the nostalgia when you lay eyes on this product.

Members of Club Nintendo in Japan will have the opportunity to purchase a SNES style Wii controller in April of 2008. Retro gamers outside of Japan may have the chance to pick one of these controllers up in the import market - and it’ll cost you!
From the Gamebrink site, explaining what Club Nintendo is:
Club Nintendo is an official Nintendo club for Japanese fans. Membership is
given as a type of commodity. Anyone who lives in Japan can eventually receive
membership if the person gathers a certain amount of points which can be gained
by purchasing and registering games published by Nintendo. They often receive
nice and exclusive gifts from Nintendo, such as Wii remotes with television
remote functionality, personalized imprints of their favorite Mii characters
onto their Wii remotes, and exclusive & unreleased games, such as the recent
    Exclamation Warriors.
A Club Nintendo account can be linked to your Wii, and
when Virtual Console games are purchased, they appear on the games registered
list on your Club Nintendo account. You can then fill in a questionnaire for
    additional bonus points.
Personally, I would love to get a classic NES controller for the Wii…as soon as I can find a Wii to buy, that is.

  • PhotoVu rolls out new wireless digital photo frame

PhotoVu has long been a household name where digital photo frames are concerned, so when word of a new 17″ widescreen digital photo frame from the company rolled out, naturally one would be excited at the prospect of having a decent display instead of those puny 7″ photo frames that aren’t too easy on the eyes after a short while. The “culprit” in question this time is the PV1765w, and it is no less than a full featured digital photo frame that comes complete with a 17″ widescreen LCD panel display in a 16:10 widescreen format to provide everyone with an optimum viewing experience for photos taken from today’s high resolution digital cameras.

Sounds pretty neat to me, since a tiny digital photo frame doesn’t really show off all the detail and splendor of images snapped with your D-SLR camera, let alone a standard 8-megapixel point-and-shoot camera.

According to Mark Van Buskirk, Partner, PhotoVu, “This is clearly a premium digital picture frame at a very affordable price, making a PhotoVu the perfect gift for the 2007 holiday season. And our new PV1765w still includes all of the industry leading features and customization options that PhotoVu is well known for.” According to the product description, the PhotoVu is pretty much the complete package.

Equipped with a 1280 x 800 LCD display and a fully customizable picture frame
and mat, the 17″ Widescreen PhotoVu display is a great way to display and enjoy
your photos. Simply insert a USB drive into the digital photo frame’s hidden
slot and let the PhotoVu automatically play a slideshow, or utilize built-in
software to interface with Apple® iPhoto™, Google™ Picasa™, and RSS Feeds.
Organize your photos on your computer or photo sharing web site and have the
PhotoVu display the content you specify. It’s that simple!
